How to plan a travel itinerary without missing anything
Planning an itinerary can be as simple or as detailed as you want.
Some people plan nothing, others try to schedule every hour. The sweet spot is somewhere in between: knowing what you do not want to miss without turning your trip into a rigid schedule.
How to build an itinerary that actually works
Mark everything on a map
Before thinking about days or order, start by researching, exploring maps, collecting recommendations and saving places.
Restaurants, viewpoints, museums, neighborhoods, cafés, beaches… anything that catches your attention.
Tip: pin everything on a map so you can clearly see:
- what is close to what
- which areas have more things to do
- what is completely out of the way
Write down EVERYTHING people recommend
Before and during your trip, you will constantly get recommendations.
From friends, videos, social media, blogs… if you do not save it right away, you will forget.
Define your “must-see” places
There are always a few places you really want to visit. Keep those in mind and prioritize them.
You can even build your days around them. That gives your itinerary a clear structure.
Everything else can revolve around those key spots.
