How to pack a smart suitcase
Packing a suitcase is almost never as simple as it sounds. You start with a clear idea and, before you know it, you are trying to make it close, wondering if you will go over the weight limit or why you packed so many things.
And the worst part is realizing later that there are things you never use… and something important you left behind.
The difference is not about packing less. It is about choosing better.
Tips and tricks to pack your suitcase
1. Do not pack anything “just in case”
Suitcases usually get filled with “just in case” items.
An extra jacket, an outfit you are not sure you will wear, another pair of shoes… it all adds up.
Before packing something, think about when you would actually use it.
If you cannot picture a real situation, you probably do not need it.
Tip: if you hesitate too much, it is a good sign to leave it out.
2. Bring clothes that are easy to mix and match
Instead of packing full outfits, bring pieces you can combine in different ways.
Simple t-shirts, neutral colors, layers you can add or remove.
This helps you get more use out of fewer items and avoids packing things you will only wear once.
3. Choose the right type of luggage
Not every trip needs the same kind of bag.
If you will be moving around a lot or walking often, a backpack is usually more practical.
If your trip is more relaxed, a classic suitcase works perfectly.
Also pay attention to weight. It may seem like a small detail, but it makes a big difference when you have to carry it.
4. Reduce bulky items
Toiletries and everyday items often take more space than expected.
Shampoo, conditioner, creams, sunscreen… they usually come in large containers you will not finish.
You can use smaller bottles, share with others, or simply buy them at your destination.
5. Things you probably do not need
Some items almost always get packed… but rarely used:
- Extra shoes
- Overly formal clothes
- Accessories that only match one outfit
- Clothes “just in case something comes up”
Tip: check if your accommodation provides towels. It can save a lot of space.
